The Evolution of the Facilities in Alta

Despite the difficulties resulting from the delays in the fulfilment of contract deadlines by the Lisbon City Council, many key projects continue to be realised by SGAL with the objective of clearly endowing Alta de Lisboa with diversified facilities which improve the quality of life in the area.
Thus, the Centro de Apoio aos Refugiados (Refugee Support Centre) was recently concluded, which will be occupied by the JRS (Serviço Jesuita aos Refugiados – Jesuit Services to Refugees). It was conceived by the architect, Frederico Valsassina and is situated next to Colégio S. Bartolomeu and to the set of homes that are destined for the residents of the current Calvanas neighbourhood.

The Day Care Centre is practically concluded and was also designed by the architect, Frederico Valsassina, which will be occupied by the Portuguese Association of Cerebral Palsy, also near the before-mentioned homes.

The construction of the Division of the PSP (Police Force) advances at a good pace, in the Av. Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, with its conclusion foreseen in the second half of 2007.

The Moniz Pereira Athletics Track, situated in Parque Oeste is also under construction.

With regard to projects, the architectural project for the After School Recreation Centre and Kindergarten integrated in the Social Centre of Musgueira was approved and will be located next to the Condomínio da Torre and the Av. Helena Vaz da Silva. It was designed by CAS Arquitectos (Architectural Firm).

A request for information relative to the Cultural Centre, designed by the architect, Álvaro Siza Vieira, was presented, and the response from the CML-UPAL (Lisbon City Council) is pending.
